The First Sparks
Upgrading a ship requires four things: emplacement points, credits, workers and time.
Fitting a new system onto the Koensayr will take a number of days = (emplacement point cost)*5/number of workers
Removing an existing system will take 1/4 that time.
A ship can gain extra emplacement points by removing systems (gaining emplacement points = point cost of removed system), giving up cargo space (5 tons per emplacement point for the Koensayr) or by removing escape pods (1 point per removed pod for the Koensayr). The last option will result in the ship failing safety inspections, which may result in a fine or other action.
These are not all the possible upgrades, they’re just the ones which are applicable for the party’s current ship and situation
